Cake and Candles

Hey-ya, how's the weekend going? I promised to be back with something crafty so here you go! The card today is from a lift challenge on the Studio Calico message board. I lifted this cute birthday card from Cat with a little twist: instead of using stamped candles I wanted to achieve a bit more dimension (can't help, it's just my thing). When I spotted a pack of b'day cake candles during grocery shopping, I knew I had to get and incorporate them.

My card base is a regular A2 size (5,5 x 4,25 in) and the mat with the heart patterned paper is cut to 5 x 3,75 in. The candles are glued down with Glossy Accents only in the middle so that I could tie a small satin ribbon into a bow around the candles. For my sentiment, I used a stamp from Studio Calico's Blue Note card kit on a strip of vellum and let it try over night as to not accidentally smear the ink, then wrapped it around the focal point mat. A piece of washi tape holds it down on the back. My finishing touches were a few sprinkles of Mister Huey Calico Shine and piece of silver glitter tape.

It was really fun to run with someone else's design and make it my own. Thanks for letting me lift you, Cat! Oh, and that girl has got some cute Valentine's on her blog if you need some inspo. Just sayin' ;) Of course someone, namely Carson, lifted one of my cards in turn and when you have a moment, definitively go and hope over to her blog Pine & Plum. You won't regret taking a stroll there :)

Talking of fun challenges, I was invited to join a monthly blog hop with some German scrappers. The first installment will be next week… stay tuned friends!
