Happy Scrappy Friends | Scrap Recipe

Hi everyone! Welcome to the "Happy Scrappy Friends" blog hop. I'm happy to announce that, for the first time, we actually have a  blog where you'll be able to see all blog hop challenges and links in one place. The challenge this month is to use a scrap recipe from Cathi. She requested to useā€¦
  • patterned paper for the base
  • a mask
  • a 3x4" (Project Life®) card
  • vellum
  • stamps
Especially the patterned paper sounded challenging at first. I just love to use heavy cardstock and I always keep a healthy stash of my favorites. Flipping through my supplies, I came up with a fun solution: I cut down a sturdy base (4x5 inches) from a Studio Calico PL paper pad, then used the vellum as my card cover. An eyelet is what holds the two together.

As for the mask, I used it on the 3x4" grid card to create a subtle texture with gesso, then sprayed it with Mister Huey Calico Shine and sprinkled some neon orange Mister Huey on top.

Once it was dry, I found a green die-cut from one of Maggie Holmes' collection for Crate Paper and another one, the navy butterfly, from Studio Calico's Lemon Lush collection. The two other butterflies were cut from patterned paper with a Kesi'Art die. Before I layered and sewed them down, I added a circle stamp from an exclusive Camp Calico set with SC's Something Blue ink. A platinum sequin finishes it all off.

To open this non traditional card, you just lift the vellum layer to reveal a message. You can either use another grid card to write on on the inside or, since the pattern paper is comparably neutral and light, right directly on the paper.

Thanks, Cathi, for this fun challenge and everyone else for visiting! I'm last on the list, so your next stop on the challenge blog where you have the option to play along yourself. Have a great day!
