Crafting Connections: My Camp Calico Mini Album

Back in 2013, when I was a member of the Studio Calico Creative Team, I made a very spontaneous trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to meet some of fellow the CT members. I didn't know what to expect or even who was gonna participate from the girls but flying over the pond for basically a long weekend seemed like the absolute right thing to do. And, it was so fun =) Or as it was put more eloquently on the SC blog: "What I don't think any of us expected was the level of positive, effortless connection and nonstop laughter we would experience".

The giant cabin we stayed in was perched in the beautiful rolling green hills of Tennessee and featured a video game arcade, a movie theater and indoor pool and two whirlpools outside. We got to hang out in our PJs and slept four to a room in queen-sized bunk beds. My roomies where Allison Waken, MaryAnn Perry, and Catherine Davis.

We were greeted with a welcome box filled with lots of goodies: An itinerary for the time of the camp, a Studio Calico t-shirt with a cool vintage camera design by Matthew Taylor Wilson, a colorful box of washi tape, treats to eat from Kentucky (the home state of SC), and a crafting kit custom-designed for Camp Calico by the SC designers. Included in the kit was a woodgrain Handbook, themed journaling cards, stamps, badges, acrylic shapes and wood veneers. Think nature, mountains, and Smokey The Bear. We all went crazy over it during craft nights!

A few weeks ago, I happened to reorganize some of my craft space and knocked said handbook with the Camp memories over. Twice. Many of the cards fell out and I realized that while I love the PL / handbook style, I'd rather not sort spend my time sorting cards back in an album. So I redid it as an 4 x 6 in album. I started by covering chipboard with canvas to use this as the covers. Then I brought out the old typewriter, Klartext stamp sets and added some more details before putting it all together.

Here are the first few pages of the new album:

Have you ever redone one of your minis? I hadn't up until now but it was fun to revisit the memories and knowing I won't have to think about how I place the album on my shelves. This one won't fall apart again. Have a great Sunday!
